Symptom: high pitched whine as soon as power applied to motor, does not make a noise if bench tested found to be hum induction into surrounding sheet metal.
Repair Time: 20 Minutes
Tools: socket 1/4
About a year ago the flow inducer on the furnace intermittently made a high pitched whine from the motor bearings so decided to replace it I installed one of these units as it seemed much simpler than trying to dismantle the original style and get the fan off in one piece. the first one i put in had a continuous high pitched whine so thinking it was not ok I took it back and amre exchanged it good as gold warranty great service , however this one also made the same noise which i tracked down to magnetic induced hum from the motor windings on the sheet metal adjacent to the motor . after a year of this racket i decided to get the original style motor , I freed up the fan replaced the motor reinstalled it in the furnace all now quite like new. I have to say I would not recommend this unit as that noise could be heard throughout the house and many people visiting commented on it. it seemed like a great idea an all in one unit but so glad I rebuilt the original.

Repair Time: 15 Minutes
Tools: Nut Driver
Just installed - simple install - removed old unit - 4 nuts and two wires (marked these as top and bottom with tape) and installed new unit. Bought new gasket but did not require as old one was still in good shape; could have used high heat silicone as another alternative.
