Standard 50W BF55 Coated High Pressure Sodium Light Bulb. Sold individually. LU50W/D/MED #11029
High Pressure Sodium lamps (HPS) generate a yellow/orange light which is much more energy efficient than mercury vapour lamps. The most common application for HPS lamps is street lighting.
HID stands for High Intensity Discharge. These lamps produce light by means of heating a gas with an electric arc (as opposed to the incandescent lamp which produces light by electrically heating a solid wire). All HID light sources require auxiliary equipment (such as a ballast, capacitor, and/or ignitor) to provide the appropriate electrical values for starting and operating.
